Dunmow & District Probus Club

Welcome from the President

I bid you a very warm welcome to the website for Dunmow and District Probus Club. The name PROBUS derives from PROfessional and BUSiness and the Dunmow Probus Club is for retired or semi-retired men who have been active in these fields. Suffice it to say that we have accountants, builders, clergymen, engineers, surveyors, teachers, company directors, farmers, local government officials, members of the armed forces and many others in our midst. With members coming from places as far apart as Bishop's Stortford to the West, Halstead to the East, Saffron Walden to the North and Maldon to the South we are truly an eclectic mix!

We meet for lunch on the first Wednesday of each month at The Barn, Little Easton Manor just north of Dunmow. We gather at 12.30 for 1.00 pm, usually have an after-lunch guest speaker and finish by about 3.00 pm. Members may bring a guest to all meetings except those in April (AGM) and our Christmas lunch in December. This year we have a formal President's Dinner in June and an Autumn buffet lunch in October to which partners are invited.

We have an extensive range of outings organised by Ron. You can read more about these on our Trips page. These events are well supported and much enjoyed.

Membership numbers around 60. Applicants for membership usually attend a monthly lunch as a guest of a current member and then apply formally with their lunch host and another acting as proposer and seconder. However we appreciate that some, possibly new to the area or moving from another Probus Club may not actually know any current members. Such gentlemen are warmly invited to contact our Secretary George Wilder to enquire about possible membership. George can be contacted on 07742-006260 or by email at secretary@dunmowprobus.org.uk.
